At this Summer’s 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Michael Phelps became America’s favorite hero, winning eight medals, six of them gold. Phelps also tied Olympic swimmer Mark Spitz’s 32 year old record for the most individual swimming medals won in a single games- four; and tied the single-Games record for total medals of eight, set by gymnast Aleksandr Dityatin of the Soviet Union in 1980.
Twelve-time World Record holder, 17-time American record holder, five-time World Champion, owns 21 US National Titles, 2001&2003 USA Swimmer of the Year.
